Philips has just announced during its press conference presenting its 2023 audio-video range the new Philips OLED908 and Philips OLED808 OLED TV series. After our presentation of the first mentioned (see our Philips OLED908 TV news: Meta panel (MLA + Meta Booster), P5 Gen7, Game Bar, Ambilight, DTS Play-Fi, 2,100 nits…), back as promised on the second .

The Philips OLED808 series, unlike the Philips OLED807 vintage 2022 with four references, has five references with the addition of a 42'' diagonal, the Philips 42OLED808 (42'', 107 cm), Philips 48OLED808 (48 '', 122cm), Philips 55OLED808 (55'', 140cm), Philips 65OLED808 (65'', 165cm) and Philips 77OLED808 (77'', 196cm).

P5 Gen7, heart of Philips OLED808 TVs

On the menu of all these TV series, and featured, the seventh generation of the P5 processor with artificial intelligence for a magnified HDR experience. We therefore find all the functionalities associated with this new chip: ambient light sensor, anti-marking system (to counter the Burn-In phenomenon)… Plus an improved version of the Ambient Intelligence process intended to adjust in real time the brightness, the gamma and colorimetry adapted to ambient lighting. This is based on a new light sensor that is much more precise to offer a white point that perfectly matches the lighting of the moment. Namely, the Super Resolution function, also improved, offers unprecedented sharpness and a great wealth of detail. Not to mention two HDMI 2.1 inputs (plus two HDMI 2.0) with eARC, VRR (from 40 Hz to 120 Hz), HFR 4K/120, ALLM, FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatibility.

Namely, the Game Bar is still present on Philips OLED908 TVs. This allows users to quickly access game-related settings, changing them on the fly without wasting time.

Philips OLED808 TV, Oled EX panel

Like the Philips OLED807 screens, we find that the OLED808 diffusers have an Oled EX panel that appeared in 2022 with light performance around 30% higher (peak light of 1,000 nits announced) than that of a panel Classic Oled (see our CES 22 news > New Oled EX TV panel by LG Display, 30% more brightness?). Please note, like last year, Philips 42OLED808 and Philips 48OLED808 televisions are not equipped with a classic OLED panel and not OLED EX.

Philips OLED808 TV, Ambilight 3 sides and HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR HLG and HDR Dolby Vision

Compatibilities with Dolby Vision HDR technologies up to Ultra HD 4K and 120 Hz, HDR HLG and HDR10+ Adaptive are still required. New, the Smart TV function based on Android TV (11.0) on the OLED807 models gives way here to Google TV.

Also, the three-sided Ambilight function is in order. As a reminder, since last year the latter has been managing the color diodes placed at the back of the TV, around the edge of the panel, independently and no longer in groups of diodes for a significantly more precise synchronization with the images displayed on the screen. 'screen. Finally, the new Ambilight Aurora gallery feature, rich in numerous embedded images and videos, allows as many exclusive artistic atmospheres in your living room.

Philips OLED808 TV, 2.1 70W sound system

As for the OLED807 in 2022, the OLED Philips OLED808 TVs incorporate a 2.1 audio system with a total power of 70 W (50 W on the 42''). The triple-ring type subwoofer is complemented by four passive cones to enhance bass impact. Precision, a Dolby Atmos decoder and a Dolby Atmos Virtualizer function are also required.

Still on the sound side, the Philips OLED808 TVs benefit from the DTS Play-Fi function allowing the configuration of a wireless 5.1 Home Cinema system or the integration of the TV into a multiroom system. Namely, the Philips OLED808 TV can even be used as the center channel within a multi-channel setup. Last precision, the Philips OLED808 TVs are equipped with a pivoting central foot except for the 77'' which has new flat metal stick feet in satin chrome.

Scheduled for release in the spring.
