At the recent Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Lenovo presented the working prototype of a Motorola branded smartphone, equipped with a rollable screen.
Motorola smartphone with rollable screen from 5'' to 6.1''
In concrete terms, the device sports a 5'' (12.7 cm) screen in 15:9 format in its "neutral" mode, and all you have to do is double click on a button on the edge for the screen to unfold at the top of the smartphone to go to 6.1'' (15.5 cm) in 22:9 format. Note that winding/unwinding is also automated depending on the applications used. In neutral configuration, the rolled up portion of the screen is visible and usable at the back of the device, like a small secondary screen. Also note that the screen occupies the entire surface of the device, the selfie camera being revealed when the screen rolls up to slightly slide down.
As functional as it is, this is only an interesting prototype, with a weight of 310 grams that will have to be optimized before the smartphone becomes interesting for the public. Either way, a nice preview of what the future holds. Images: YankoDesign
