Ultra HD 8K televisions are not yet predominant in the ranges of TV brands, that does not prevent the Chinese manufacturer BOE from touching the future with the presentation of the very first LCD screen equipped with an Ultra HD 16K definition , which is 15360 x 8640 or 132.7 million displayed pixels.
110'' 16K LCD screen, for the panache…
This 110'' diagonal prototype shown at the recent Display Week 2023 meeting held from May 23 to 25 in Los Angeles therefore has a resolution four times higher than that of UHD screens 8K, and 16 times better than 4K UHD displays. Sixteen is also the number of Display Port connectors needed to operate the beast, even if theoretically only one DisplayPort 2.1 is enough to carry a 16K signal (at 60 Hz), but this standard is not yet deployed. As a prototype, the screen is not a real TV, more a monitor (especially a technology showcase), and its current capabilities remain limited. Thus the 60 Hz IPS (ADS) LCD screen only offers a brightness of 400 nits and a contrast ratio of only 1,200:1. However, it covers 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut.
Once again, this prototype screen is absolutely not intended for the general public (we dare not imagine the power consumption of such a diffuser) but could be of interest to various professional sectors. It is especially for the screen manufacturer BOE the opportunity to demonstrate its know-how.
