American teenagers still fans of iPhone

As the years go by, young Americans continue to swear by Apple's smartphone.

The brokerage house Piper Sandler conducts a survey of American teenagers twice a year to find out more about their spending habits. The latest (conducted in September 2023) includes a sample of 9,193 young people with an average age of 15.7 years, spread across 49 states.

87% of American teenagers own an iPhone

The conclusions are in line with the results of surveys carried out in previous years (which we have reported on several occasions), namely a still clear popularity for the Apple smartphone. Thus, 87% of the teenagers surveyed own an iPhone, which is as many as last April and as in September 2022. This figure was only 40% in 2012, i.e. a jump from simple to double in the space of 10 years. Also, 88% of respondents say that their next smartphone will be an iPhone (even - and especially - if they already have one), the same figure as last year.

34% of American teenagers own an Apple Watch

The survey also reveals increasing popularity for Apple Watch smartwatches with an ownership rate reaching 34%, better than the 31% observed last year. The survey tells us in passing that 31% of adolescents own a virtual reality headset, compared to 29% last April. However, their utilization rate fell from 14% to 10% over this period.
