Let's face it, it would probably be a bit of an exaggeration to say that Tom Cruise and his latest Mission: Impossible convinced United States President Joe Biden of the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI), but that's not not completely wrong.
Indeed, according to White House chief of staff Bruce Reed, Biden was already “impressed and alarmed†by AI after seeing fake images of himself, not to mention “the terrifying technology of voice cloningâ€. A fear that only grew after the president watched Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning, a film in which Tom Cruise fights an evil AI (to summarize, eh).
No secrets with the American government!!! !
“If before this film he was concerned about potential problems with AI, he has seen more to worry about,†Reed told APnews. As a result, Biden signed an executive order at the end of October to establish new standards and security measures in relation to AI.
According to the White House, this order “directs the most extensive actions ever taken to protect Americans from the potential risks of AI systems.†It effectively includes the development of standards, tools and tests aimed at ensuring the security of AI systems, requiring developers to share their security test results and other critical information with the US government. The order also mentions “content authentication and watermarking to clearly label AI-generated content†to protect the public from AI-assisted fraud.
