Despite a less-than-great global economy and increasingly palpable geopolitical tensions, the growth of 5G subscriptions, the most expensive, seems very little affected.
1.6 billion 5G subscribers by the end of 2023?
According to the latest estimates from the Ericsson Mobility Report, there would be 610 million additional 5G subscriptions in 2023, or 63% more than in 2022. The total subscriptions worldwide would thus reach 1.6 billion at the end of the year, or 100 million more than previously estimated. This standard is widely used for mobile connections, fixed wireless access, and VR/AR services.

By the end of 2023, 5G will cover 45% of the global population, and 85% in 2029. “Total mobile data traffic is expected to triple between the end of 2023 and the end of 2029, explains Ericsson, due to factors such as improving device capabilities, an increase in data-intensive content, and continued improvements in the performance of deployed networks.â€
