Intriguing first images which suggest a tragic and gripping story in which Hong Kong, enhanced by a visibly careful staging, should play an essential role. Nicole Kidman is once again fascinatingly intense.
Expats, a reflection on identity and motherhoodExpats is a 6-episode mini-series created by Lulu Wang, the director of The Farewell, adapted from the novel The Expatriates by Janice YK Lee. The story follows a group of three women in Hong Kong. Among them, Margaret, an American who has lived in China for several years, played by Nicole Kidman. When the latter loses track of her child, the destinies of Hilary (Sarayu Blue), Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) and Margaret (Nicole Kidman) find themselves turned upside down. The series is described as a reflection on identity and motherhood. Note that Lulu Wang is both writer and director of the series, which will be broadcast on January 26 with two episodes per week until February 23.
