While promoting his new film The Instigators, Doug Liman suggested that he was still in contact with Tom Cruise with the prospect of giving a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow: “We can't stop talking about it... We love this world. Tom and I saw him again about two months ago, because I hadn't seen him in ten years. I was like, 'Wow, that's a really good movie.'"

In the process, Emily Blunt (co-starring with Tom Cruise in the film) also expressed her interest in participating in a sequel to the film which took form of a time loop in which a soldier (Tom Cruise) relives the same day over and over again as he tries to prevent an alien invasion harmful to humanity.
Despite mixed success in theaters with revenues of $370 million worldwide, the film has since found a larger audience on VOD and video. In 2019, Warner Bros. Pictures hinted that it was officially developing a sequel, but since then, nothing at all. The recent deal between Tom Cruise and Warner Bros. to develop projects could get things going again.
