Filming on the series developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which officially received a green light last May, is likely to begin in early 2025.
The head of Amazon MGM Studios clarified that a schedule was in place and a casting search underway, before adding: “We are working hard. We have good equipment. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is truly excellent. We're really excited. I think we'll spend the rest of the year getting things ready so we can start production early next year. We need to get our global casting started as soon as possible so we can have our Lara Croft very quickly.â€

The series is one of three projects set to power a new interconnected multimedia universe with a new Tomb Raider movie and a new game tying it all together.
The new universe of the series will be separate from the animated series Tomb Raider, which will be released on Netflix in October with Hayley Atwell as Lara. The Prime Video series, co-produced alongside Crystal Dynamics, the developer of Tomb Raider, will take place in the continuity of the 2013 and 2018 games. It will serve both as a sequel to the games and as a bridge between the new film coming soon and the next game, Tomb Raider: Legend.
For the record, two actresses have already played the character on the big screen: Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003, then Alicia Vikander in 2018.
