Apple TV calms down its spending

A limited audience despite billions spent? Apple will limit the loss of its Apple TV+ service with tighter control of its budget.

According to the latest information collected by the Bloomberg agency, Apple will stop spending indiscriminately on original series and films on its Apple TV+ platform.

So far, the company has spent some $20 billion on its productions, and while critical success is often appointment, the audience does not follow. Launched in 2019, the platform only represents 0.2% of time spent watching TV in the USA, compared to 8% for Netflix. To be clearer, in one month, Apple TV+ is watched less than Netflix in one day. Even if Ted Lasso was the most watched series in 2023, Apple TV+ content is less present in the Top 10 audiences than that of all other platforms (except Paramount+). And despite numerous nominations and awards, Apple TV+ productions struggle to attract audiences.

Apple will therefore adopt a more serious strategy with tighter budget control and a more conservative approach to spending. According to Bloomberg, the company wants to lose this reputation in Hollywood for “spending without counting” and adopt more rigorous discipline regarding its investments.
