Marion Cotillard and Henri Cavill in Tom Cruise's next film

Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Ministry of Dirty War available on Prime Video since July 25) and Frenchwoman Marion Cotillard (Annette, Little Girl Blue) are reportedly in negotiations to share the bill with Tom Cruise in Broadsword for Warner Bros. Pictures.

This project is expected to be the next film from Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie as soon as they have completed the eighth Mission: Impossible. Against all expectations (and rumors), it will not be a remake of The Gauntlet (The showdown) but of Broadsword, a feature war film which will feature "an American special forces marine who crashed in France in the middle of the Second World War. Having become a solitary survivor, he will have to continue his mission to the end, in the heart of the chaotic conflict.”

Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, which suggests Cruise will shoot before the Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed film, likely in the first half of next year. Once Broadsword is finished, Tom Cruise could then continue with the third Top Gun.
