This project is expected to be the next film from Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie as soon as they have completed the eighth Mission: Impossible. Against all expectations (and rumors), it will not be a remake of The Gauntlet (The showdown) but of Broadsword, a feature war film which will feature "an American special forces marine who crashed in France in the middle of the Second World War. Having become a solitary survivor, he will have to continue his mission to the end, in the heart of the chaotic conflict.â€
Production is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, which suggests Cruise will shoot before the Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed film, likely in the first half of next year. Once Broadsword is finished, Tom Cruise could then continue with the third Top Gun.
