Robert Downey Jr or the most expensive comeback in the history of cinema

Robert Downey Jr, the interpreter of Tony Stark/Iron Man, is preparing to make a comeback in force - and dollars - at Marvel. We will explain everything to you.

While Marvel seemed to be losing momentum since the failures of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, the studio is trying to regain control not content with the crazy revenues of the global MCU franchise, by announcing at Comic- Con de San Diego the return of Robert Downey Jr in the next two Avengers films directed by the Russo brothers, in the guise of… the iconic villain Dr. Doom (Dr. Doom).

From Iron Man to Dr Doom££££

The announcement is all the more resounding as Robert Downey Jr is swapping Iron Man's armor for that of Dr Doom. It's a bit like Daniel Craig returning in the next James Bond movie as Blofeld, the leader of Spectre. Suffice to say that within the fan community, the debate rages.

In the meantime, Robert Downey Jr's banker filled his swimming pool with champagne and bought himself a 7 meter cigar. Because to bring the actor back into the MCU, the considerations were not only artistic since the actor would have to earn “significantly more” than the two Russo brothers who, to direct the next two films, will still pocket 80 million dollars. Add to that a private jet, a dedicated security service and a training camp nothing for him.

Gold medal for Robert Downey Jr ££££

As a reminder, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, directed by the two brothers, exceeded $4.8 billion in box office revenue world office. In addition, the box office success of Deadpool & Wolverine ($438 million in worldwide revenue to date in a total of 53 territories) suggests that Marvel's bad patch is over. To date, Robert Downey Jr. has already earned between $500 and $600 million for all his performances as Iron Man in Marvel films. It's not just Iron Man's armor that's gold!
