A work that required time and effort, canceled without shame, it's always sad. But in the case of Star Wars The Acolyte, which will therefore not have a second season on Disney+, objective reasons justify stopping the massacre.
A bit like Episode VIII had tried to deconstruct the myth of the Jedi (before backtracking in Episode IX, for better and for worse), The Acolyte tried to transform its heroes - initially imagined as noble and selfless - into badly brought up, impulsive and selfish teenagers. Why not, except that it results in a flood of idiotic decisions and inconsistencies that weigh down the narrative.
Too expensive, too little watched££££
Progressivism, not to say wokeism of which the series was quickly accused (more or less rightly), is therefore far from being its real problem, and the public was not fooled. So, despite a good audience for the first two episodes (broadcast back to back), the number of views plummeted with the following episodes (apart from a small desperate surge for the last one, but it was too late).
Some incredible fight scenes - surely in the top 3 of the Star Wars pantheon - therefore did not succeed in saving The Acolyte, Disney+ adopting the draconian policy of its competitors Netflix or Prime Video when it comes to not renewing a little-watched series, especially when it is expensive to produce (more than 100 million dollars per episode here).
