Denon AVC-A10H: 13.4 Home Cinema Amplifier (8K, DTS:X Pro, Auro 3D, Imax…)

The Denon AVC-A10H, little brother of the Denon AVC-A1H presented in our columns two years ago, takes up all the specifications with the major exception of the number of channels. The AVC-A10H is in fact a 13.4 model, 15.4 for the AVC-A1H.

Denon has officially announced a new premium Home Cinema amplifier, the AVC-A10H. On the menu, 13 amplification channels, four independent subwoofer outputs, ten fully functional integrated HDMI 2.1 connectors, a modern user interface and the best of the current technology. Namely, this amplifier will be manufactured in Japan in the Denon factory in Shirakawa.

Denon AVC-A10H, zoom on the HDMI connectors££££

To return to the HDMI 2.1 standard, the seven inputs and three outputs benefit from 40 Gbps connectors and support all the features of the standard: [abc]VRR[/abc], [abc]ALLM[/abc], [abc]eARC[/abc], QMS, QFT, [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]4K[/abc] at 120 fps and UHD [abc]8K[/abc] at 60 frames per second. Note that only two of the three HDMI 2.1 outputs support 8K.

Denon AVC-A10H, main specifications££££

The Denon AVC-A10H, thanks to the presence of thirteen discrete amplification channels (monobloc configuration) support for Dolby Atmos 5.4.2, 7.4.6. or 9.4.4 configurations. On the digital-to-analog converter side, there are nine ESS Sabre 2-channel DACs (necessary to manage the 17 channels including the subwoofers). A pre-amplifier mode allowing power amplifiers to be connected to individually selected channels is present. Compatibility with, on the one hand, the 360 Reality Audio sound processing developed by Sony, on the other hand, the Mpeg-H standard (a group of international standards including a video compression standard, an audio compression standard, a container format standard and related documents), is in place. Namely, the Dirac Live Ready functionality (calibration process) is possible to optimize the acoustic treatment of the Home Cinema room.

Denon AVC-A10H, the rest of the main specifications££££

For the rest, the Denon AVC-A10H perfectly takes up the design of the Denon AVC-A1H which appeared in 2022. We also find the Imax Enhanced label, the Auro 3D functionality, an [abc]Upscaling[/abc] of [abc]1 080p[/abc] sources to UHD 4K ([abc]2 160p[/abc]) and UHD 8K ([abc]4 320p[/abc]), HDCP 2.3 certification for all HDMI sockets, [abc]HDR10+[/abc] and [abc]DTS:X Pro[/abc] compatibility and the Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer function.

The rest of the AVC-A10H's technical specifications are unchanged compared to the AVC-A10H, namely a triple-layer chassis (1.6 mm thick for the lower layer), cast iron feet (329 g each), access to [abc]webradios[/abc], the Bass Sync process to recalibrate the [abc]LFE[/abc] channel on certain multichannel tracks where it would be slightly delayed (this happens relatively often), and the DTS Virtual X mode to transform any soundtrack into a DTS:X track. This 13.4 model delivers a power of 13 x 150 W under 8 ohms / 13 x 190 W under 6 ohms (EI Core high-current transformer) and integrates a transcoder from analog sources to HDMI. The same goes for managing [abc]DSD[/abc] streams (up to 5.6 MHz) via the HDMI connectors, assigning one of the three HDMI outputs to HDMI zone 2 to broadcast an audio-video signal different from that of the main room. Of course, in addition to the Dolby Atmos 7.4.6. or 9.4.4 features already mentioned, those [abc]DTS:X[/abc] 11.2 (7.1.4/9.1.4/5.1.6) and Auro 3D 13.1 (7.1.6) are also current. Namely, the fifteen terminals on the back of the amp allow, once all connected to a speaker, to easily switch from one decoding to another, each requiring a specific configuration.

Denon AVC-A10H, Heos multiroom function££££

On the menu again, the Heos multiroom functionality, the management of technologies [abc]HDR10[/abc], [abc]HDR10+[/abc], [abc]HDR HLG[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] and the BT.2020 gamut. To return to Heos, this amplifier can therefore easily be transformed into a link in a larger audio chain, including real Denon Heos speakers to provide sound for a home.

We also note the integrated [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] compatibility, zone 2 and zone 3 stereo audio management, the [abc]Audyssey MultEQ XT 32[/abc] acoustic correction and the [abc]Audyssey Dynamic Volume[/abc], [abc]Audyssey Dynamic EQ[/abc] and Audyssey LFC treatments. The latter allows you to configure each subwoofer as part of a double subwoofer installation, for deeper and more precise bass.

Denon AVC-A10H, connectivity££££

Also on the menu for the Denon AVC-A10H, an Audio Restorer mode for optimizing the sound rendering of compressed audio files, an audio-photo multimedia gateway [abc]UPnP[/abc] ([abc]DLNA[/abc]) associated with compatibilities [abc]MP3[/abc], [abc]WMA[/abc], [abc]AAC[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc] and [abc]Flac[/abc] and the [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] certification (compatibility with the Siri voice assistant). We also note the [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] compatibility, two powered [abc]USB[/abc] Host ports (one on the front), the ability to enjoy online music services like Spotify (Spotify Connect compatibility) or Last.fm in [abc]streaming[/abc], the [abc]Gapless[/abc] function and support for the [abc]AIFF[/abc] format.

Of course, the [abc]Dolby TrueHD[/abc] and [abc]DTS-HD[/abc] decoders are also present, not to mention the [abc]Auto LipSync[/abc] function or the ability to control the amplifier from a smartphone or Android/iOS tablet via the Denon Remote application. Similarly, an Audyssey MultEQ Editor application or the MultiEQ-X PC software (paid) is available to optimize settings and save several complete settings on a smartphone/tablet or in the Cloud. Also worth mentioning is the support for 4-ohm speakers for even more advanced ergonomics and DDSC HD compatibility with the new AL32 multichannel Processing Multi Channel.

Denon AVC-A10H, general appearance££££

The finish of the AVC-A10H sports a 100% aluminum front and heavy steel side panels. The [abc]OSD[/abc], [abc]1 080p[/abc] color is perfectly informative ??????, in particular on the nature of the input and output signals with, for example, the channels actually active. The same goes for the four Quick Select buttons on the front, which always allow access to the desired source quickly and easily. Precision, these also integrate additional functions and modes (Audyssey or multiroom management) for ever more complete macros.

Denon AVC-A10H, rich connectivity££££

The connectivity therefore includes seven [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]CEC[/abc] 2.1 inputs, certified [abc]HDCP[/abc] 2.3 and all transparent to 3D, Ultra HD 4K and 8K signals, to [abc]Deep Color[/abc], to [abc]xvYCC[/abc] and to [abc]1 080p/24[/abc]). As already mentioned, the [abc]eARC[/abc] function is also part of it. There is also a [abc]YUV[/abc] input, two [abc]Composites[/abc], two [abc]optical[/abc] inputs, two [abc]coaxial[/abc], seven stereo [abc]RCA[/abc] inputs, one Phono, one zone 2 stereo output, one zone 3 RCA stereo output, one 15.4 Pre-Out output, two USB Host ports (one on the front), one headphone output, one microphone input for the Audyssey MultEQ XT 32 automatic calibration and one [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port. Plus three 12V Trigger sockets, one RS-232C socket and fifteen pairs of terminal blocks. Also noteworthy are the terminal blocks of different colors to match the cables, to facilitate the connection of the speakers. Finally, a remote control accompanies the AVC-A10H.

Availability in stores, in black or silver, scheduled for November. Recommended price: 4,699 euros.
