Device limitations, audio inconsistency between content sources, ambient noise or individual hearing abilities, there are many reasons why it can be difficult to hear the dialogue in a movie, series or TV show. That’s where DTS’s new DTS Clear Dialogue solution comes in to deliver, as the name suggests, greater audio clarity.
Introducing Greg Ireland, Senior Research Director at IDC££££
“Sound quality is a critical part of the TV and video viewing experience,” said Greg Ireland, Senior Research Director at IDC. “Our consumer survey results continue to show that sound quality is very important to a large majority of viewers. Additionally, sound quality is relevant to both younger and older consumers, indicating that solutions that enhance the audio experience address a very important aspect of the viewing experience for consumers of all generations.”
A recent survey of 1,200 US adults by Xperi, which owns DTS, found that 84% have difficulty understanding dialogue in TV shows and movies. To overcome this problem, more than three-quarters (77%) of respondents said they use subtitles, and one in three (30%) said they always or often have them turned on.
DTS Clear Dialogue, US Consumer Survey££££ 79% of US consumers surveyed by Xperi said DTS Clear Dialogue would increase their interest in a Smart TV that offered it. The main use cases are: • Actors don’t speak clearly (40%) • Non-dialogue audio is too loud (38%) • Viewers want to watch at a lower overall volume to avoid disturbing others (35%) • The TV environment is too noisy (34%)
