Onkyo TX-RZ30: 9.2 amplifier, Dirac Live, HDMIy 2.1, 8K, HDR Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10, AirPlay 2…

The manufacturer Onkyo is expanding its range of Home Cinema amplifiers with the announcement of the TX-RZ30 model, the little brother of the TX-RZ50, which has many of its specifications for a significantly lower indicative price. Presentation.

To make a long story short, the Onkyo TX-RZ30 retains most of the technical characteristics of the TX-RZ50. In terms of differences, it is worth mentioning a lower power, 9 x 100 W under 8 ohms (against 9 x 120 W), a less plentiful connectivity (6 HDMI 2.1 inputs against 7), a 9.2 Pre-Out output and not 11.2, without forgetting a less accomplished aesthetic, without a sliding hatch.

Onkyo TX-RZ30, main specifications££££

For the rest, we find the management of [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc]/[abc]DTS:X[/abc] 7.2.2/5.2.4 configurations, a still rich connectivity with six HDMI 2.1 inputs, Imax Enhanced certification, audio management for a zone 3 (in addition to a zone 2/zone B) in the case of a main 7.2 configuration and, of course, the renowned integrated Dirac Live automatic calibration.

The HDMI inputs are 2.1 40 Gbps obedience, compatible with [abc]HFR[/abc] 4K/120, 8K/60, [abc]VRR[/abc], [abc]ALLM[/abc], [abc]eARC[/abc], QMS (Quick Media Switching) and QFT (Quick Frame transport). Also included are an [abc]Upscaling[/abc] Ultra HD 8K of UHD 4K sources, another in UHD 4K/8K of [abc]1080p[/abc] sources and a [abc]480i[/abc]/480p deinterlacing function.

There is also the management of [abc]HDR10+[/abc] in addition to [abc]HDR10[/abc], HDR [abc]HLG[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc], the Works with Alexa, Works with Apple Homekit (Siri) and Works with Hey Google functions. Thus, it is possible to control part of the Onkyo TX-RZ30 by voice through a speaker such as Amazon Echo, iPod or Google Home. The Works with Sonos function is also present, allowing the Onkyo TX-RZ30 to be easily integrated into a Sonos multiroom system and to control it through the brand's application. Also to know, the [abc]Chromecast (integrated)[/abc] and bi-directional Bluetooth functions (BT TX therefore transmitter in addition to BT RX therefore receiver) are part of it.

Also present are THX Select certification, [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] compatibility, and Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer and DTS Virtual:X processing (to enjoy "height" sound effects without "height" speakers). Similarly, it is still possible to assign a stereo signal from the front speakers to the Height, surround or surround back speakers to enjoy perfect ambient sound. And the amplification is still Dynamic Audio. The latter, associated with a massive transformer, highlights a high-current, low-impedance architecture to precisely manage large speakers.

We also note another wireless (or wired) network protocol, DTS Play-Fi, which also offers multiroom management. Several Play-Fi speakers or equipment can thus coexist in the same home and communicate with each other. All the features of a multiroom configuration are then available: broadcasting the same music source on all DTS Play-Fi products, or the possibility of broadcasting a separate source on each of them.

Onkyo TX-RZ30, the fundamentals of the brand££££

Model 9.2 [abc]3D Ready[/abc], the Onkyo TX-RZ30 of course takes over all the features of the TX-RZ50. We find the [abc]Hi-Res Audio[/abc] certification (up to 192 kHz/24 bits), the [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] ac Dual Band compatibility (2.4/5 GHz), the network functionality associated with an [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port, the multimedia function [abc]UPnP[/abc] ([abc]DLNA[/abc]), the [abc]MP3[/abc] compatibility ], [abc]WMA[/abc], [abc]AAC[/abc], [abc]Flac[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc], [abc]AIFF[/abc], [abc]Alac[/abc] and [abc]DSD[/abc] (2.8/5.6/11.2 MHz) and access to [abc]Webradios[/abc] (TuneIn). Likewise, the [abc]streaming[/abc] services Spotify Connect, Amazon Music HD, Deezer and Tidal are directly accessible via the amplifier. The Roon Ready label is also on the menu.

The whole thing is of course fully controllable thanks to the free Android/iOS Onkyo Controller application with its really successful "look" and ergonomics. Also worth mentioning is the "Standby Hybrid" standby mode (the amplifier in standby remains transparent to a turntable connected via HDMI for example) to drastically reduce energy consumption (0.15 W) and a transfer via the HDMI output of the available signals, even analog, on all video inputs. This is in order to connect a single cable to the television.

Onkyo TX-RZ30, artist inputs and outputs££££

In addition to the six [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.1 inputs already mentioned, there are two suitable outputs. All are [abc]HDCP[/abc] 2.3 certified and transparent to [abc]2 160p[/abc]/50, 2 160p/60, 2 160p/120 and [abc]4 320p[/abc]/60 signals up to 4:4:4 and BT.2020. Of course, these connectors are also [abc]Deep Color[/abc] (36-bit) and [abc]xvYCC[/abc] certified. The [abc]3D Ready[/abc] label is still there. Also present, a [abc]YUV[/abc] input, two [abc]Composite[/abc], one [abc]optical[/abc], one [abc]coaxial[/abc], seven stereo [abc]RCA[/abc] including a Phono, an [abc]Ethernet[/abc] port, an [abc]RS-232[/abc]C socket and nine pairs of screw terminals. Plus a [abc]USB[/abc] Host port on the front, a 3.5 mm mini-Jack auxiliary input (for the calibration microphone) on the front and a headphone output. Also noteworthy, a zone 2/zone B stereo Pre-Out output (with dedicated Dac to enjoy digital sources) via RCA, an amplified zone 3 stereo Pre-Out output (5.2 + zone 2 2.0 + zone 3 2.0 configuration) and a color [abc]OSD[/abc]. Plus the already mentioned Pre-Out 9.2 output.

To return to the second HDMI output, this allows you to send the same audio-video signal carried on the first to another room to power a video projector in addition to the TV, for example. If the Zone 2 HDMI parameter is activated, it is then completely independent of the first in order to feed a secondary room with a different audio and video signal, in Ultra HD 4K only.

Availability announced for mid-October, in black only. Recommended price: 1,190 euros.
