AirPods Pro 2 become hearing aids

With an upcoming [abc]Firmware[/abc] update, Apple's AirPods Pro 2 headphones will benefit from features comparable to those of real hearing aids.

Confirming rumors that have been circulating for a while, Apple has taken advantage of the announcement of its latest iPhones to add new features to its AirPods Pro 2 headphones already available on the market, via a software update this fall.

The headphones will thus benefit from functions that bring them closer to hearing aids, thus becoming a less expensive alternative for people bothered by "mild to moderate" hearing loss. The update will allow users to take a 5-minute hearing test themselves via iPhone or iPad.

Users will then be able to create a personalized listening profile, allowing the AirPods Pro 2 to automatically increase the volume of certain sounds - such as voices - according to each individual's needs. Note that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the body that regulates medical devices in the US, recently gave its authorization for this type of use.

The update will be deployed this fall in more than 100 countries.
