ID card on iPhone, now in California

In the United States (before the rest of the world?), more and more businesses are accepting digital IDs via iPhone.

After the driver's license in some North American states, the ID can also be stored in the iPhone (or Apple Watch) and accepted as such. This has already been the case for a few months in the states of Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, Georgia and Ohio, and California will soon join the list, Apple confirms.

Faster, simpler identity checks££££

Concretely, partners who usually require an ID (car rental, alcohol sales, or even security points at the airport) will be able to verify the age and identity of users using their iPhone, who will have to authenticate themselves using Face ID or Touch ID. No specific machine is required to take advantage of this function.

Apple naturally insists on the protection of private data, made possible by the inherent level of security of its devices. This way, the identity information is encrypted and stored only on the iPhone or Apple Watch. No one can access it except the user, who presents his identification himself.
