While artificial intelligence still scares some Hollywood artists, Cameron, who is very critical of the subject (see the Skynet program in the Terminator film), has decided to embrace it. More specifically, the director recently joined the board of directors of StabilityAI, the company that created Stable Diffusion, an application for generating images via AI from textual primers. His role will be to determine how this technology can be used in special effects in cinema.

“I have spent my career studying emerging technologies that push the boundaries of what is possible, in the service of telling incredible stories,” said Cameron. I was at the forefront of CG over three decades ago, and I’ve remained at the forefront ever since. Today, the intersection of generative AI and CG creation represents the next wave. The convergence of these two completely different creative engines will unlock new ways for artists to tell stories in ways we never could have imagined. StabilityAI is positioned to lead this transformation. I’m excited to partner with Sean, Prem, and the StabilityAI team as they shape the future of all visual media.”
