XGimi Horizon S Max/S Pro: Laser/LED, DLP UHD 4K and HDR Dolby Vision

As for the Aura 2 (see our news Xgimi Aura 2 Dual Light 2.0: UHD 4K and dual laser light source), after our visit to the Xgimi stand at the IFA show in Berlin, we know more about the nature of the Dual Light 2.0 light source implemented on the Xgimi Horizon S Max and Xgimi Horizon S Pro models.

The new Horizon references from Xgimi have a different design from the previous models, which appeared a few years ago, but nevertheless in the same aesthetic vein with a cubic shape.

Xgimi Horizon S Max/S Pro, ISA 5.0 functionality££££

Like their predecessors, the Xgimi Horizon S Max/S Pro models integrate advanced ergonomics, equipped with ISA [abc]5.0[/abc] functionality. The latter allows keystone adjustments, automatic focus, wall color management in the event of direct projection (without a screen), etc., thus facilitating the installation of these devices. In addition, the moderate weight of these models reinforces their transportable character. In this regard, their integrated support allows a vertical adjustment of up to 135° and a horizontal rotation of 360 degrees.

Xgimi Horizon S Max/S Pro, Dual Light [abc]2.0[/abc]££££

The real innovation of the Xgimi Horizon S Max/S Pro does not lie in their cubic design or in their audio system developed by Harman Kardon. In reality, it is found at the level of the light source, designated under the name Dual Light 2.0. This technology combines laser and [abc]LED[/abc] light sources, thus making it possible to marry, according to the manufacturer, "the brightness and color precision of LEDs with the high contrast and sharpness of laser". However, it differs depending on the reference: on the Xgimi Horizon S Max, it mixes laser [abc]RGB[/abc] and [abc]LED[/abc] RV (red and green) while on the Xgimi Horizon S Pro, it combines laser RGB and RGB LED. Of course, this affects their respective peak light output, 1,800 lumens for the Xgimi Horizon S Pro, 3,100 lumens for the Xgimi Horizon S Max. To be precise, the demonstration of the latter on a 180" (457 cm) screen at the recent IFA show in Berlin was impressive (see photo below).

Xgimi Horizon S Max/S Pro, [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] compatibility and Smart Android TV 11££££

Another notable feature of the Xgimi Horizon S Max and S Pro is their compatibility with [abc]HDR[/abc] Dolby Vision, as well as [abc]Imax Enhanced[/abc] specifically for the S Max model. In addition, these devices run on the Android TV 11 operating system, guaranteeing access to a multitude of popular applications, including those dedicated to streaming such as Prime Video and Disney+ (although Netflix is not included). Further details will be provided at a later date.

The availability of the Xgimi Horizon S Max and S Pro are still scheduled for mid-October. Indicative prices are set at €1,999 for the S Max model and €1,399 for the S Pro model.
