Earlier this year, Mel Gibson revealed that he still plans to direct and star (as Martin Riggs) in the fifth installment of the Lethal Weapon film franchise, replacing the late Richard Donner as director, who passed away in 2021. Richard Donner had already been working extensively on a script for a fifth film, and Gibson continued that work earlier this year, saying he was "pretty happy" with the result.
Meanwhile, Gibson was recently in Malta with a production team scouting potential filming locations for the sequel to The Passion of the Christ, which could begin filming as early as early next year.
