BenQ GP520, 4K LED video projector, Google TV, 2,600 lumens

The manufacturer BenQ announces the BenQ GP520 Ultra HD/4K video projector. If with a square design, the latter immediately brings to mind the X3000i and X3100i models offered by the manufacturer respectively in 2022 and last year and more specifically intended for gaming applications, the GP520 is a Home Cinema model. Presentation.

The BenQ GP520 therefore expands the range of the Taiwanese manufacturer whose references are optimized for a high-flying audio-video show.

BenQ GP520, 4LED light source££££

The BenQ GP520 is built on a 4LED light source. Understand that the latter has four diodes, one red, one green and two blue (see photo below). The latter is converted to green via a phosphor treatment to boost the brightness by approximately 10% compared to a [abc]LED[/abc] [abc]RGB[/abc] model, announced here at 2,600 lumens. The lifespan announces 20,000 hours in Normal mode, 30,000 hours in Eco mode

BenQ GP520, main specifications££££

Model [abc]HD Ready[/abc] [abc]2 160p[/abc] and [abc]3D Ready[/abc], the BenQ GP520 is still based on the 0.47'' (1.19 cm) DMD chip signed by Texas Instruments which has 2,048 x 1,200 pixels and of which a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel section is used to display a 4K UHD image via the XPR (wobulation) process of Texas Instrument which uses the hyper-high switching speed of the mirrors (7 microseconds) via a specific video processing to create 8 million pixels for each displayed image (a real pixel gives in the end four pixels).

For the rest, the BenQ GP520 supports [abc]HDR10[/abc] and [abc]HDR HLG[/abc] formats, ensures 95% coverage of the Rec.709 gamut and displays a dynamic contrast ratio of 600,000:1. The projection ratio is fixed at 1.2 and offers a dimension of 60'' (152 cm) to 120'' (305 cm) for a distance between 1.5 m and 3.2 meters. Vertical/horizontal keystone correction ±40° and automatic focus are included, as are a digital zoom and the automatic Screen Fit and Object Avoidance functions. The first finely adjusts the size of the image to that of the projection screen, the second avoids any wall element, for example a switch or a ventilation outlet which would pollute the rendering of the image by moving the latter onto a surface free of obstacles.

Finally, the audio section is based on a stereo system with a total power of 24 W (2 x 12 X). Namely, the BenQ GP520 can be used as a Bluetooth speaker.

BenQ GP520, Smart Google TV££££

Of course, the BenQ GP520 is also compatible with 3D DLP Link. We also note an operating noise oscillating between 28 dB and 30 dB, respectively in Eco and Normal mode. Finally, the BenQ GP520 is a Google TV model and offers access to the Google Play Store. It is therefore easy to install your favorite applications: Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, myCanal, Netflix, etc. Likewise, the [abc]AirPlay[/abc] and [abc]ChromeCast (integrated)[/abc] functions are available, as are the [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6 and [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.2.

BenQ GP520, connectivity££££

The connectivity has three [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.0 inputs, one of which has the [abc]eARC[/abc] and [abc]ALLM[/abc] functions. Also present are two [abc]USB[/abc]-A Host ports and a USB C port (PD Out functions for Power Delivery and ensuring the charging of a suitable device and DP for Display Port and displaying for example the image of a connected device).

BenQ X3100i, Input Lag££££

Last point, as indicated in the title of this news, the BenQ X3100i is compatible [abc]2 160p[/abc]/60 (UHD 4K at 60 Hz) but also [abc]1 080p[/abc]/120 or even 1 080p/240. Input Lag side, we note 16.7 ms with a 2160p@60 Hz signal, 4.2 ms in 1080p@240 Hz and 8.3 ms in 1080p@120 Hz. Perfect characteristics for video games from a PS5 console, Xbox Series X or a PC equipped with a powerful graphics card.
