2nm processors: we will have to wait for the iPhone 18

After having inaugurated the first mobile processor engraved in 3 nm with the iPhone 15 Pro, TSMC will not be ready until 2026 for the 2 nanometer generation.

As a privileged customer of TSMC, Apple benefits from a preview of the Taiwanese foundry's technical advances, in particular the nanometer etching of the iPhone's main processors.

TSMC 2nm chip not before the iPhone 18?££££

While previous rumors saw the new generation of 2nm chips arriving for the iPhone 17 Pro planned for next year, we may ultimately have to wait until 2026 and the iPhone 18. This is what Taiwanese analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently revealed, specifically citing the iPhone 18 Pro, these more expensive models generally benefiting from the most advanced technologies. And to add that the iPhone 17 (without specifying whether it will be the Pro) will be equipped with the next generation of 3nm etching, therefore better than that of the current iPhone 16.

As we always remind you, in the world of processors, the smaller the etching process, the more powerful the chip, the less energy-hungry and less subject to heat. Indeed, the smaller the size of an etching, the smaller the space between the transistors, so more transistors can be packed on the same surface.
