Certainly, the native UHD 4K content on France 2 UHD will be less numerous than initially hoped for at the beginning of 2024 when the channel is launched, but some are still on the program. Let us rejoice because this means that France 2 UHD, threatened by the budget cuts of the Barnier government, is saved, at the cost of delaying certain investments (see our news TNT 4K, huge waste in perspective?). And if the budget envisaged until now is undoubtedly different (a little, a lot, significantly?) from the one to come, the existence of France 2 UHD nevertheless seems assured.
France 2 UHD 4K schedule of live broadcasts ££££
The UHD 4K live festivities begin in February with the broadcast of the Victoires de la Musique, followed by that of the Martinique Carnival from March 1 to 4 on the overseas channel La Première. Then there will be the Roland Garros tournament from May 25 to June 8, the Fête de la Musique on June 21, and the July 14 parade on the same day for the national holiday. The Tour de France, once considered, will not be part of it in 2025, due to the lack of control over certain technical problems. France TV does not want to take any risks and prefers to postpone the UHD 4K capture/broadcast of this fantastic spectacle. Nothing has been announced at the time of writing for the second half of 2025, but other events are planned and will be specified later.
France 2 UHD, ramp-up of native UHD 4K content in 2025££££
At the same time, in the first quarter of 2025, the first deliveries of PAD (ready to broadcast) will take place from production companies for suitable broadcasting on France 2 UHD. These deliveries are set to increase as production/postproduction switches to UHD 4K format in 2025. Although no series, film, documentary title, etc. was communicated by the representative of France TV, Jacques Donat-Bouillud (director of broadcasting at France Télévisions), during the 4th edition of the Colloquium Avenir de la TNT which took place in Paris on November 28, several contents are in preparation.
