Breath analysis, Apple is not short of air

The army of biometric sensors in our electronic devices could soon welcome a newcomer capable of analyzing breathing.

Facial recognition, thermometer, blood oxygen, heart rate… Our electronic gadgets are full of biometric sensors, making them easier to use and/or keeping an eye on our health.

Human breathing, the equal of fingerprints or facial recognition?££££

But there is always room for new types of sensors and Apple is right on the ball, notably with a recently granted patent describing a sensor capable of analyzing breathing through the nose. “Method and apparatus for monitoring nasal breathing” is the title of the document that describes a system that could be installed on a headset such as Apple Vision Pro, or connected glasses.

For the technical details, the audio signal emitted by breathing is digitized and analyzed. Its spectral characteristics then make it possible to learn more about the user's breathing. The patent adds that a user can be recognized by their breathing, similar to facial or fingerprint recognition.
