CES 25 > TCL Mini LED 2025, new generation with strong innovations

While the press conference of the Chinese manufacturer TCL was focused on the North American territory, with the presentation of references that will not see the light of day in Europe or almost (the portable video projector PlayCube will be released here), the Asian firm has however unveiled many technical innovations that will be available within its TV Mini LED 2025 range. And it promises.

From the TCL conference, it was therefore not the series presented (they will be called differently in Europe and will differ for some of their specifications) but rather the various technological developments linked to the next-generation Mini LED backlighting system that will equip the 2025 televisions. Of course, all the technical advances unveiled on the press conference stage will not integrate all the TCL Mini LED references coming this year, but the premium series will be equipped with them.

TCL Mini LED 2025, new Quantum Dot nanocrystals££££

We therefore start with a Quantum Dot with a new alloy for a more marked reaction to light. TCL mentions more "vibrant" nanocrystals capable of 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut and increased longevity, 100,000 hours of viewing in the best conditions, that is to say by taking advantage of preserved Quantum Dots qualities (before degradation).

TCL Mini LED 2025, new generation Mini LED brighter and more precise, less power-hungry££££

TCL then mentions a new generation of even more efficient Mini LED. This offers a luminous power increase of 33.5% while reducing energy consumption by 40.2%. The lens of the diode also adopts an optimized shape to deliver a narrower light path (less leakage and less disturbance of neighboring diodes) and increased control of it (in its intensity and direction). These new 16-bit LEDs offer ultra-precise control of the intensity of the brightness delivered, according to 65,536 levels. Thus, the slightest variations in the image are taken into account and reproduced on the screen for increased realism. As a result, the halo phenomenon is reduced by 96%, good news for better controlling Blooming linked to transmissive LCD technology.

TCL Mini LED 2025, hyper-fast diodes Zero Delay Transient Response££££

TCL has also announced that these diodes are capable of changing state extremely quickly, i.e. a period of time less than that required to display an image, even with a 120 hertz signal. Thus, there is no latency between the signal and the response of the diodes, which until now caused a slight blurring of the image and a lack of dynamics. TCL calls this capability of its Mini LED 2025 system Zero Delay Transient Response.

TCL Mini LED 2025, generalized micro OD process££££

Another major change to the Mini LED 2025 backlight system is a reduced optical distance (OD) between the latter and the LCD panel. We are still far from the OD0 process proposed in 2021 with the extremely thin TCL TCL 85X925 Pro television, however, it will be on average significantly reduced compared to that of the various Mini LED systems of the 2024 series, which oscillated between OD8 and OD20 values. And to formalize this development, TCL bluntly mentions the term Micro OD, specifying that the latter will improve image uniformity by an unprecedented 143%.

TCL Mini LED 2025, HVA LCD panels and Cryst Glow coating££££

Finally, to finish with the hardware improvements of the next generation Mini LED signed TCL, we must mention the HVA process (also known as WHVA). Already reported in our news relating to the Samsung 2025 TV range (see our news (UPDATE) CES 25 > Samsung Oled, Mini LED and Lifestyle 2025 Ultra HD 4K/8K TV range), this one offers a wider viewing angle, more or less equivalent to that of IPS LCD panels (see our news CES 25 > Presentation of TCL/Samsung LCD TV with WHVA panel with wide viewing angle). Some TV series will also benefit from the Cryst Glow anti-reflective coating announced to be very efficient. We'll judge for ourselves whether it's at the level of Samsung's Glare Free offering.

TCL Dynamic Light Algorithm, unprecedented video processing for HDR rendering with an SDR signal££££

In addition to all these hardware improvements, TCL indicates that video processing is also progressing, particularly with the new Dynamic Light Algorithm functionality. Combined with the promising capabilities of the upcoming Mini LED backlighting system, TCL announces a visual rendering close to HDR quality in the presence of an SDR signal. We can't wait!
