Edge-wrapped display for iPhone 19?

Apple is apparently actively working on the design of future iPhones, including a screen that wraps around the edges of the phone, much more advanced than those of competitors.

According to Korean media outlet The Elec, Apple is reportedly working on a borderless display technology that extends beyond the edges of the iPhone, but the company is encountering technical difficulties.

So, while this display was planned for the iPhone 18 2026 model year, it should arrive later. Apple is working with Samsung and LG Display to develop this display described as revolutionary. Demanding as usual, the company wants to get rid of the distorting (or "magnifying") effect of the curved edges that we see on competing devices.

In addition, Apple wants to keep the characteristic flat appearance of iPhones, with angular edges, a bit like the Apple Watch. Some people familiar with the project describe this future design as resembling a pebble. In addition to the distortion issues, current solutions also lack robustness, a factor that is also important for Apple and must therefore be addressed before the famous screen can be made a reality.
