Limited success for the first OLED iPads

After years of waiting, the arrival of Oled technology on iPad Pros in 2024 will not have been enough to convince buyers.

In May 2024, the latest iPad Pros were released, the first Apple tablets to use [abc]Oled[/abc] display technology after years of waiting. However, the devices were of limited success, enough to push LG Display - supplier of the screens - to convert its iPad screen production lines to iPhone versions.

Apple with its Oled iPads misses its targets££££

This is revealed by the Korean media The Elec, explaining that Apple initially hoped to distribute 10 million units in 2024. But according to data from DSCC, these estimates fell to 6.7 million in October 2024. Thus, LG Display is reorienting its production means, fortunately easily convertible without requiring the heavy investment of building new lines. The Cupertino company also plans to switch from [abc]LCD[/abc] technology to OLED for the iPad Air, potentially in 2026, although a delay of at least a year could now occur because of this recent relative failure.
