AI on smartphones, who cares?

As artificial intelligence becomes the number one selling point for smartphone vendors, what do customers really think?

In the United States last August, the Cnet website conducted a survey of 2,400 smartphone owners to find out more about what encourages them to choose one model over another.

We learn that the number 1 argument for changing smartphones is battery life (for 61% of respondents), followed by storage capacity (46%) and a better camera (38%). Only 18% say they are motivated by the integration of AI (artificial intelligence) functions. 25% of respondents do not find AI functions useful, 45% are not happy about paying a subscription to use them and 34% are worried about their impact on their privacy. The most enthusiastic about AI are the representatives of Generations Y and Z (born between 1981 and 2012): 20% of each generation find these features useful.

In addition, 16% of Gen Y and 15% of Gen Z already use AI on their smartphones for tasks such as photo editing, image creation and text summarization. Also, 19% of Gen Y and 20% of Gen Z regularly use tools such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini on their smartphones.
