In 1997, Takeshi Kitano won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for Hana-bi. Six years later, in 2003, he won the Silver Lion for Zatoichi. His latest film Broken Rage left the 81st Venice Film Festival empty-handed (to the benefit of Pedro Almodovar for The Room Next Door who won the Golden Lion and Brady Corbet, Silver Lion for The Brutalist), but could make up for it with a great popular success on the platform with a smile.
Comedy with violence££££
As a reminder, Broken Rage is the twentieth film directed (written and performed) by Kitano. Presented as a "comedy within a violent film", the film follows, in the first half, a hitman, Nezumi (played by Takeshi Kitano), who fights for his survival when he is caught between the police and the yakuza. But in the second half, the crime thriller takes an unexpected turn, evolving into a self-parodic comedy that tells the same story with a touch of humor.
Broken Rage is expected on March 13 on Prime Video. A little extra originality, its compressed and efficient duration: 62 minutes.
