Analysts' forecasts were too timid, Netflix now has more than 300 million subscribers worldwide (301.6 million precisely, NPA tells us, see graph below) thanks to a record fourth quarter which counted nearly 19 million (18.9 million precisely) new members.
300 million subscribers and audience of +700 million individuals££££
This is what the service revealed when announcing its latest quarterly results, even though it had stated that it would stop publishing its number of subscribers (see our news Netflix in the lead forever?). But hey, the 300 million mark is something to celebrate, right?
And knowing that there are several viewers per household, Netflix even estimates its audience at more than 700 million people. This success can be explained, among other things, by the timid but spectacular arrival of live sports (see Tyson Vs Paul), as well as the toughening of the fight against password sharing, pushing some of the former freeloaders to subscribe.
Netflix, price increase in the United States soon to be generalized?££££
Good news for the company then, but not necessarily for members, present and future, since the price of subscriptions is increasing (again) by $1 to $2 in the United States as well as in Canada, Portugal and Argentina. Get ready, it could hit us this year.
