Autobahn, Kraftwerk's cult album remixed in Dolby Atmos for its 50th anniversary

50 years ago, electronic band Kraftwerk released their first classic, the immense Autobahn. Still active despite the departure or death of most of its original members, the band continues to play around the world and will release a remixed reissue of its cult album on March 7, with an audio Blu-Ray featuring Dolby Atmos 5.1 mixes.

Started in 1970 in Düsseldorf by a duo of eccentric music students, Kraftwerk would need a few years and three albums of radical experimentation (never officially reissued...) before becoming the legendary electronic music group that we know today. And it was in 1974 that the group finally found the formula with their album Autobahn. Offering completely new synthetic landscapes for the time, recorded with keyboards tinkered by the group, the album was an astonishing musical exploration, both avant-garde and very melodic, especially on the legendary 20-minute title track which transposed into music the experience of driving on the autobahn in the German countryside.

Dolby Atmos remixes of the album

Fifty years later, and as the band continues to tour the world (despite the fact that only Ralf Hütter remains as an original member of the group), Kraftwerk is celebrating its cult album with a reissue like no other, to be released on March 7 by Parlophone.

Ralf Hütter has worked from the original 16-track soundtracks of the album to offer a new Dolby Atmos 5.1 mix. The result will be available in an audio Blu-Ray version of the album, which will offer this Dolby Atmos version as well as the original stereo version and new remixes from 2024 for the tracks Autobahn and Komentenmelodie 2. This Blu-Ray will also offer a video of Autobahn made from Kraftwerk's live projections (which are not always in the best taste as we have seen in the past).

This anniversary reissue will also be available in a 33 rpm Picture Disc vinyl version and in digital with the Dolby Atmos mix.
