Samsung HW-Q995F, 11.1.4 soundbar, 120 Hz, Eclipsa Audio and Dolby Atmos/DTS:X

Unveiled at the CES 2025 show in Las Vegas in early January, the Samsung HW-Q995F soundbar is the successor to the HW-Q995D that appeared last year. It features a new, extremely discreet subwoofer, Eclipsa Audio compatibility and Roon Ready functionality.

Without minimizing the impact of the Roon Ready function (you just have to try it to never want to do without it, unfortunately its price, from $12.5 to $14 per month or €830 for an unlimited lifetime license, does not make it suitable for Mr. Everyman), the most important new features of the Samsung HW-Q995F soundbar lie in its Eclipsa Audio compatibility (a sound process competing with Dolby Atmos developed in partnership with Google, see our CES 25 news > Eclipsa Audio Google, competitor to Dolby Atmos, in Samsung TVs and soundbars 2025) and in its new wireless base subwoofer. Another development, the Q-Symphny Pro functionality is announced to be more efficient on dialogues and it is now possible to connect three additional wireless speakers to the soundbar, compared to two in 2024.

The subwoofer, an ultra-compact cube measuring 25 cm on each side (58% smaller than its predecessor) delivers a powerful 300 W (200 W in 2024) through two 8" (20.32 cm) membranes and an algorithm called AI NLC (Non Linear Control) to minimize distortion. Thus, Samsung announces that the subwoofer of the HW-Q995F soundbar is capable of going down to 32 hertz.

The Ultra HD 4K 120 Hz compatibility of the Samsung HW-Q995F allows the HDMI connection of a latest generation game console, PS5 or Xbox Series X, or a Gaming PC, and enjoy it to the fullest on a TV, especially with an ever-increasing number of 120 Hz titles. Perfect for ergonomics and to free up an HDMI input on the TV.

As already mentioned, the Samsung HW-Q995F of course includes the Q-Symphony Pro function capable of activating only a portion, and simultaneously, of the TV speakers and the sound bar. Thus, the sound fits perfectly with the action taking place on the screen for an ever greater immersion.

The Samsung HW-Q995F still has the SpaceFit Sound Pro process and the Game Bar 2024. The first, in the presence of a Samsung 2020/2021/2022/2023 TV, sends a succession of sound messages and analyzes their frequency response, their echo and the return speed to indicate to the sound bar the optimum acoustic treatment to apply depending on the room (a microphone is present in the subwoofer for precise calibration of the latter). The second allows you to make the most of your favorite games with the best possible audio-video quality.

Samsung HW-Q995F, 11.1.4 configuration for a total of 22 speakers££££

The Samsung HW-Q995F comes with a wireless surround speaker kit to recreate a true surround sound environment (see photo above). The total power delivered by the sound bar accompanied by its 8'' (20.32 cm) subwoofer and its surrounds (front + side + Up-Firing HP for each) displays 756 W for a total of 22 speakers in 11.1.4 configuration. Each end of the sound bar has two HP to further expand the sound space. The subwoofer, equipped with automatic calibration, is still a wireless specimen.

As announced in the title of this news, the Samsung HW-Q995F soundbar is compatible with [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] and [abc]DTS:X[/abc]. The management of [abc]MP3[/abc], [abc]AAC[/abc], [abc]Wav[/abc], [abc]Ogg[/abc], [abc]Flac[/abc], [abc]AIFF[/abc], [abc]Alac[/abc] and [abc]Wav[/abc] files is also ensured.

With wireless Dolby Atmos compatibility, a suitable soundtrack is decoded and broadcast by the soundbar and the TV without any wired connection. Similarly, the subwoofer benefits from Acoustic Lens technology for a wider diffusion of low frequencies.

[abc]Bluetooth[/abc] compatibility allows you to enjoy streaming[/abc] content from a suitable device and transform the Samsung HW-Q995F into a [abc]Hi-Fi[/abc] system. Or even to wirelessly connect a television. It is also possible to wirelessly connect the TV and the sound bar via the [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] function. Spotify Connect, [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] and [abc]Chromecast (integrated)[/abc] compatibilities are included.

The AVA (Active Voice Amplifier) function automatically covers new noise in the TV environment. For example, that of a kettle or a vacuum cleaner which will be covered by an increase in volume managed directly by the TV. Don't panic, the TV lowers the sound, automatically always, when the noise stops.

For its part, artificial intelligence analyzes the signal frequency in real time, instantly optimizes the sound processing to best match the scene displayed on the screen.

Samsung HW-Q995F, connectivity££££

In the connector menu, we notice two [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]CEC[/abc] 2.1a inputs/outputs to exploit HDR10, [abc]HDR10+[/abc] and HDR Dolby Vision in Pass-Through (certified [abc]HDCP[/abc] 2.3) for perfect compatibility with [abc]Ultra HD Blu-Ray[/abc] discs, plus an [abc]optical[/abc]. The HDMI output manages the [abc]eARC[/abc] function.

Samsung HW-Q995F, SmartThings compatibilities££££

Also, Samsung has reduced the height of the HW-Q995F to 69.5 mm, no more, in order to facilitate its integration under the brand's TVs of course, but also under most TVs on the market. Of course, the Samsung HW-Q995F, equipped with the SmartThings home application, can be easily integrated into a connected home installation. Likewise, Alexa, Works with Hey Google and AirPlay 2 certifications are on the menu. It is therefore possible to vocally control the Samsung HW-Q995F via Alexa or Google Assistant, through a Google Home type speaker for the latter.

Last precision, the design of the Samsung HW-Q995F evolves with a double bevel at the ends (against a single one in 2024) and on its upper face grooves of the most beautiful effect (see photo below).

Availability planned for spring. Indicative price still unknown.
