Apple Watch environmental myth?

Apple's smartwatch is once again under fire from the American justice system. This time, it is suspected that it is not as environmentally friendly as it claims to be.

After the Apple Watch that was dangerous for health, the connected watch from the Cupertino company is this time suspected of harming the environment. More specifically, it is certain commitments of Apple towards ecology that are questioned by some Californian customers of the company.

If I had known, I would not have bought!££££

At the end of February, seven buyers of Apple Watch (Series 9, SE and Ultra 2) filed a complaint against Apple, arguing that they would not have acquired the watch if they had known the truth about Apple's claims about its environmental initiatives. More specifically, when Apple promoted these Apple Watches in 2023, the company explained that it offset their carbon footprint by investing in forest protection projects around the world. The complaint mentions in particular wooded areas in Kenya and China, listed by Apple. Two forests that in reality, even without Apple's intervention, were already in an ecological movement.

Buyers thus felt deceived. And to cite in the complaint a study affirming that 70% of American and Canadian consumers consider environmental protection as an important factor in their purchasing decision.
