Sony Bravia 8 M2 TV: QD OLED panel hypothesis back on the table

The nature of the OLED panels present in the upcoming Sony Bravia 8 M2 OLED TV series, vintage 2025, is definitely the subject of many contradictory reports. While our first source, Japanese, reported Primary RGB Tandem OLED panels, other more recent ones, European, indicate the presence of QD OLED panels signed Samsung Display.

Contrary to the clues gathered in recent weeks which suggested that the next Sony Bravia 8 M2 TV series would use Oled Meta 3.0 panels, those unveiled at the CES show in Las Vegas last January (see our news Sony Bravia 8 M2 TV with Oled Primary RGB Tandem panels?), the Japanese manufacturer could therefore still be the only one with Samsung to offer QD Oled panels in its 2025 TV range.

Clarification, these panels would indeed be the latest generation, in line with those presented again at the CES in Las Vegas 2025 (see our news (MAJ) CES 25 > 4th generation QD Oled TV: peak brightness at 4,000 nits confirmed). On the other hand, this would only mean the 55XR8M2 (55", 140 cm), 65XR8M2 (65", 165 cm) and 77XR8M2 (77", 196 cm) references, so no 83" (211 cm) model, Samsung Display not producing other sizes for TVs. And as it is hard to imagine Sony mixing Oled technologies within the same TV series...

Certainly, with the Sony Bravia 8 M2, the articulation of the range becomes a little complex, the latter being the best technically equipped compared to the Sony A95L (series 9 vintage 2023) which should still be in the range in 2025 (while stocks last) equipped with QD Oled panels (second generation). Or even compared to the Sony Bravia 9 TV series (2024 vintage) based on a Mini LED backlighting system, also present in the brand's catalog in 2025. On the other hand, Bravia 8 M2 and Bravia 9 would both claim a peak brightness of 4,000 nits.

As a reminder, the Sony 2025 TV range will be topped by the new Sony RGB Mini LED TV series, the official launch of which is scheduled for tomorrow (see our Sony RGB Mini LED TV news, announcement scheduled for March 13).
