TCL X11H TV: 7th generation Mini LED, 6,500 nits, 14,000 zones

The TCL X11H TV series is none other than the TCL X965, which was unveiled at the IFA show in Berlin last September. The specifications and design remain unchanged, only the name changes.

With equal characteristics, there is another evolution between the TCL X965 TVs unveiled in Berlin and the TCL X11H announced today at the brand's European conference in Paris. The Asian manufacturer is now highlighting the seventh generation of its Mini LED backlighting system, and not the sixth. The explanation lies in the counting of the OD0 process which appeared at the CES show in Las Vegas 2021 before being marketed via the single TCL 85X925 Pro reference at the end of 2021. Until then excluded from the count, TCL is now integrating it into its historic Mini LED, a technology which it originated with the TCL X10 specimens in 2019 (see our CES 19 news > TCL X10 75'' 8K QLED LCD TV, the first Mini LED screen for 2019?). The X11H series program includes the two diagonals planned for the X965 series, namely the TCL 85X11H (85", 216 cm) and TCL 98X11H (98", 249 cm).

TCL X11H: 7th generation Mini LED££££

The TCL X11H models are therefore distinguished by their seventh generation Mini [abc]LED[/abc] backlighting. Announced in Berlin as OD2, for an optical distance of only 2 mm between the backlighting system and the [abc]LCD[/abc] panel, this characteristic could have evolved. Indeed, TCL only specifies that the Mini LED Gen 7 backlighting oscillates between OD5 and OD7, to be verified later. However, this is a drastic reduction in optical distance compared to that of the various Mini LED systems in TV series available in 2024, which ranged from OD8 to OD20. And to formalize this evolution, TCL bluntly mentions the term Micro OD, specifying that the latter will improve image uniformity by an unprecedented 143%.

For the rest, we find a native 10-bit [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]4K[/abc] panel and a refresh rate of 144 hertz. The X11H series televisions boast an exceptional number of backlight zones: 10,368 zones for the 85" model and 14,112 zones for the 98-inch model. These devices are equipped with very small diodes, measuring 100 microns, with a lens that improves the light diffusion angle to 160°, compared to 130° for previous models. This lens not only improves screen uniformity by reducing the Clouding phenomenon by 60.63%, but also minimizes Blooming, which appears as halos around the luminous elements on a dark background thanks to an optimized shape for a significantly better controlled light path (less leakage and less disturbance of neighboring diodes). Also worth knowing about the diodes that equip this seventh generation Mini LED, their brightness is 33% higher than the previous generation while consuming approximately 40% less energy in less.

Of course, the TCL X11H's backlighting system incorporates the technological advances of previous models, the TCL C89B or TCL X955. The LED diodes used are identical in terms of colorimetric characteristics, guaranteeing optimal image homogeneity. In addition, these LEDs are capable of changing state very quickly, eliminating shadows on moving objects thanks to Direct Drive technology. This precise 16-bit brightness control is carried out on more than 65,536 levels and ensures faithful reproduction of the slightest image variations. Thus, these are taken into account and reproduced on the screen for increased realism. As a result, the light halo phenomenon is reduced by 96%, good news for better controlling Blooming linked to transmissive LCD technology.

Similarly, TCL announces that the diodes of the 7th generation Mini LED are capable of changing state extremely quickly, a time less than that required to display an image, even with a 120 hertz signal. Thus, there is no latency between the signal and the response of the diodes, which until now was the cause of a slight blurring of the image and a lack of dynamics. TCL calls this capacity of its Mini LED 2025 system Zero Delay Transient Response.

To conclude the hardware improvements of this 7th generation Mini LED signed TCL, we must mention the Crystglow HVA Panel process. Already mentioned in our news relating to the Samsung 2025 TV range, this offers a wider viewing angle, more or less equivalent to that of IPS LCD panels, combined with a very high-performance anti-reflective coating.

TCL X11H, technical specifications and connectivity££££

The TCL X11H displays an impressive peak brightness of 6,500 nits combined with a matte LCD panel for high-quality visual rendering. QLED Pro technology allows 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut thanks to nanocrystals with a unique alloy for a more pronounced reaction to light. TCL mentions more "vibrant" nanocrystals and increased longevity, 100,000 hours of viewing in the best conditions, that is to say, benefiting from preserved Quantum Dots qualities (before degradation).

The management of HDR10, [abc]HDR10+[/abc], HDR10+ Adaptive and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc] technologies, combined with the Dolby Vision IQ functionality (brightness sensor), is in place. We can also mention MEMC 120 Hz motion compensation and an anti-blue light mode. All implemented by the AiPQ Pro processor.

In terms of connectivity, these televisions are equipped with four [abc]HDMI[/abc] [abc]2.1[/abc] ports certified compatible with [abc]HFR[/abc] 4K/144, [abc]eARC[/abc], [abc]VRR[/abc], FreeSync Premium Pro and [abc]ALLM[/abc] technologies. Other connectors include an optical output, a USB 3.0 port, a USB Host 2.0 port, an Ethernet port, a headphone output, and a CI+ port.

TCL X11H, audio and Smart TV features

In terms of sound, the X11H TVs feature a 6.2.2 channel audio system from Bang & Olufsen, compatible with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X. These TVs also feature DVB-T2, DVB-S2, and DVB-C tuner. As for Smart TV features, they run on Google TV (Android 12) and support [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6 connectivity as well as [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.2. [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] and HomeKit certifications, as well as Alexa compatibility, are also present, allowing for seamless integration into a connected environment. Finally, the TCL X11H TVs are ready for the Gemini voice assistant intended to replace Google Assistant in the coming months (see our news Google Assistant is over).

TCL X11H, gaming experience and availability££££

The TCL X11H is also aimed at video game enthusiasts thanks to the Game [abc]Master[/abc] Pro 3.0 feature, which manages a frequency of 144 Hz and offers a minimal Input [abc]Lag[/abc] of less than 6 ms with a 120 hertz signal. DLG (Dual Line Gate) technology allows a resolution of [abc]1 080p[/abc] to be displayed at 288 Hz, guaranteeing a smooth gaming experience. Precision, the TCL X11H screens include a [abc]DVB-T[/abc]2, [abc]DVB-S[/abc]2 and [abc]DVB-C[/abc] tuner and the stands are double models (at each end of the screen).

These models are expected to be available from April. Approximate prices: €3,999 for the TCL 85X11H and €5,499 for the TCL 98X1H.
