The Astronomical Selling Price of Chewbacca's Star Wars Crossbow

At a recent movie prop auction, a unique weapon from the Star Wars universe found a lucky buyer.

As we mentioned, Propstore recently put up for sale over a thousand props appearing in movie scenes, spanning over 350 pieces. Two items straight from the original Star Wars trilogy served as the centerpieces of this collection, but only one found a buyer.

Estimated at between $250,000 and $500,000, it was Chewbacca's Bowcaster - a crossbow from the future - that went for $610,000 ($768,000 with fees). Based on a crossbow made by Horton Crossbows of Wales in limited production, the weapon comes from the collection of Gerard Bourke, head props maker on the original trilogy.

Missed by $10,000££££

However, the medal awarded to Luke Skywalker by Princess Leia following the destruction of the Death Star at the end of Episode IV failed to sell, having missed the minimum bid of $300,000 by just $10,000. "The auction exceeded our expectations and highlighted the enduring popularity of franchises like Star Wars, Batman and Ghostbusters, as well as legendary films like Grease and the cult classic The Evil Dead," said Propstore managing director Brandon Alinger. We are proud to have enabled our global audience of enthusiasts to acquire the historical pieces they cherish."
