The Sony Bravia 5 TV series, or Sony XR55, after the Bravia 9 and Bravia 7 is the third and final 2025 TV series from the manufacturer equipped with Mini LED technology (RGB Mini LED technology is announced for 2026, see our news Sony RGB Mini LED TV in 2026, it's official). It has five references [abc]Ultra HD[/abc] [abc]4K[/abc], the Sony 55XR55 (55'', 140 cm), Sony 65XR55 (65'', 191 cm), Sony 75XR55 (75'', 191 cm) Sony 85XR55 (85'', 216 cm) and Sony 98XR55 (98'', 249 cm).
Sony XR55 Mini LED TV, replacement for Sony X90L TV££££
During its presentation of the 2025 audio-video range, Sony specified that the Bravia 5 series was the direct replacement for the Sony X90L released in 2023 then equipped with a Full LED Local Diming backlighting system. The Sony Bravia 5 series therefore adopts the same configuration but switches from LEDs to Mini LEDs combined with an XR Backlight Master Drive backlighting system. Sony has given few details on the latter except, at the time of writing, the presence of an increased number of zones. Up to six times more compared to the X90L specimens, this value is probably valid for the larger Bravia 5, the 98" missing from the X90L references.
Sony Bravia 5 Mini LED TV, Acoustic Multi-Audio function and Voice Zoom 3££££
The sound section of the Sony XR55 series is called Acoustic Multi-Audio and uses four speakers for a total power of 40 W (4 x 10 W). Support for [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] is of course included, accompanied by that of [abc]DTS:X[/abc]. The same goes for the Acoustic Centre Sync function. The latter allows you to leave the TV's sound system active if (exclusively) a Sony sound bar is connected to widen the sound stage.
The Voice Zoom 3 process, based on artificial intelligence, identifies human voices and amplifies them for excellent intelligibility. The Acoustic Center Sync function, for its part, achieves sound fusion between the TV speakers and a Bravia Theatre 2024 or 2025 soundbar (presentation to come). The Voice Zoom 3 mode also works with a Bravia Theatre soundbar.
Sony Bravia 5 Mini LED TV, XR Cognitive Processor 2025 by AI and XR Clear Image££££
Sony announces for its XR Cognitive Processor 2025 chip a deep integration of artificial intelligence for an even more powerful XR Clear image functionality (see our news Sony XR Processor2023: new XR Clear Image function to find out more) We find an excellent display of colors with a multitude of new hues thanks to an adjustment not only of the luminance but also of the saturation. Thanks to the Quantum Dots technology (XR Triluminos Pro label). The relief of the images is also improved through a finer management of the objects present in the foreground which concentrate the essential part of the video processing (precision, color, etc.), in contrast to those in the background managed with a subtle bokeh effect, again very sophisticated for a greater overall realism and similar to human vision.
TV Mini LED Sony Bravia 5, XR Motion Clarity, XR Backlight Master Drive and XR Contrast Booster 10££££
For the rest of the specifications of these broadcasters, we note a 10-bit native VA LCD panel 100/120 Hz and the Mini LED XR Backlight Master Drive backlighting system already mentioned. The XR Backlight Master Drive backlighting system is capable of displaying all the details of an image by perfectly modulating the brightness of each of the diodes. For example, all the shades of black in a dog's dark fur on a black background can be reproduced on the screen. The XR Backlight Master Drive also drastically reduces the blooming phenomenon still present around bright objects or white letters on a black background, without lowering the overall brightness of the image. This is done by very finely modulating the amount of energy sent to the diodes in the backlighting areas adjacent to those displaying these bright objects or letters. Of course, this ability to perfectly distribute energy to the targeted diodes also allows for a higher peak brightness for incredibly sparkling specular lights.
The capabilities offered by the XR Cognitive Processor 2025 by AI have allowed Japanese engineers to refine the Object-based Super Resolution technology. This algorithm, combined with an image database dedicated to textures, detects and analyzes each object composing an image, individually optimized to display a sharper texture and greater depth, thus increased naturalness and reality. Sony XR55 TVs also integrate XR Motion Clarity motion compensation and the exclusive XR Triluminos Pro function already mentioned, for even richer and more precise colors, all within an extended color space.
Finally, we note the XR Contrast Booster 10 function (luminous peak in significant progression, without further details, compared to the X90LK specimens) for superior quality images with extreme brightness in the bright areas and blacks of abysmal depth. Of course, Sony XR55 TVs (or Sony Bravia 5) are compatible with [abc]HDR10[/abc], HDR [abc]HLG[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc].
TV Mini LED Sony Bravia 5, Smart Google TV££££
The Sony 2025 Smart TVs feature the Google TV operating system, which puts the spotlight on content. Like Android TV, Google TV brings together and organizes all your streaming apps and subscriptions in one place. More than 6,500 apps are included, including Disney+, Netflix, Canal+, France TV or YouTube and more than 700,000 films and series episodes. And no more need to juggle from one service to another to find what you want to watch: the hundreds of thousands of films and series are organized and searchable by genre, regardless of their origin.
The XR Cognitive Processor 2025 by AI is also used with the Smart TV functionality for improved ergonomics thanks to almost immediate fluidity and responsiveness. Finally, the Sony XR55 TVs immediately integrate the Google Assistant function via the [abc]Chromecast[/abc] certification (integrated) and a dual microphone, one on the remote control, the other on the TV. The [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] and HomeKit certifications are also part of it.
Sony Bravia 5 Mini LED TV, Optimization Pro function (Bravia Cam)££££
The Bravia Cam camera is only optional on the Sony XR55. Of course, once installed, gesture control is a must. The "Find Remote" function and the smaller backlit Eco remote control, with far fewer buttons and released in 2022 (in 2025, it can be charged via USB: 2 hours of charging gives about 4 months of use), are in order.
But the Bravia Cam function has many other features. In addition to gesture control, the camera triggers the display of an automatic step back message and an audible alert if the person is looking at the TV too closely (very useful for children), allows energy savings by automatically lowering the brightness of the TV if the viewer leaves the room, and optimizes the sound processing according to the position of the viewer in front of the TV. Lastly, it is possible to completely turn off (via a switch) the camera and no private data is stored on it or the TV.
Sony Bravia 5: Sony Pictures Core service££££
Like all Sony Bravia XR TVs, the Sony Bravia 5 offers the exclusive Sony Pictures Core (Centre of Real Entertainment) streaming platform. This platform, mainly powered by Sony Pictures productions, offers, with the purchase of a Bravia XR TV, the possibility of viewing a selection of 10 films from the Hollywood studio free of charge for 24 months, as well as the largest collection of feature films bearing the Imax Enhanced label, to be chosen from a catalog that is regularly enriched. The Sony Pictures Core film library is expected to be enriched regularly and this, with extreme quality, i.e. a speed of up to 80 Mbps for consumers with an adequate subscription.

Sony Bravia 5: Acoustic Multi-Audio££££
The sound section of the Sony Bravia 5 series is called Acoustic Multi-Audio. It uses two speakers placed on each side of the LCD panel with a power of 10 W each, in addition to the two speakers located at the bottom of the panel, also with a respective power of 10 W but with Down-firing. These vibrate the surface of the panel to transmit sound information. Support for Dolby Atmos is of course still available, accompanied by DTS:X. The same goes for the Acoustic Centre Sync function. The latter allows you to leave the TV's sound system active if (exclusively) a Sony sound bar is connected to widen the soundstage.
Finally, the Voice Zoom 3 process, based on artificial intelligence, identifies and amplifies human voices to ensure optimal intelligibility. This feature works in tandem with the Bravia Theatre 2024 and 2025 soundbar (presentation of the latter to come).
Sony Bravia 5 Mini LED TV, Perfect for PlayStation 5 and Game Menu 2££££
The Perfect for PlayStation 5 certification, with its two features Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, is also on the program. With it, the Sony XR55 TVs automatically switch to Game or Standard mode depending on the nature of the signal sent by the PS5 console.
Sony 2025 TVs feature Game Menu 2, which provides quick and easy access to game settings: VRR, Motion Blur Reduction, Black Equalizer (to unblock image areas and uncover an enemy or bonus) and the size of the displayed image (to reduce it on the screen).
Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode, Prime Video Calibrated Mode and Imax Enhanced functions££££
Among the other advantages of the Sony XR55 TVs, in addition to the Sony Pictures Core certification already mentioned, we note the Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode labels (to enjoy series, documentaries, films, etc. on your TV with the same quality as that of Netflix post-production studios regardless of the environment, dark or bright), Imax Enhanced and Prime Video Calibrated Mode. Again, to enjoy series, documentaries, films, etc. on your TV with the same quality as that of Prime Video post-production studios regardless of the environment, dark or bright. For clarification, Sony XR55 TVs are compatible with [abc]DTS:X[/abc].
Otherwise, still in terms of features, the Calman Ready function (fine calibration of the TV with the tools of the same name) and [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 5/[abc]Bluetooth[/abc] compatibility are still part of the Sony XR70 TV range. And Sony Bravia 5 TVs still have only two [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.1 inputs with management of [abc]VRR[/abc], [abc]ALLM[/abc], [abc]eARC[/abc] and 4K/120 functions via a bandwidth of 48 gigabits. There are also two other HDMI 2.0 connectors (18 Gbps bandwidth).
Lastly, Sony XR55 TVs can adopt three different positions: no stand if the TV is fixed to the wall; placed on a double stand whose supports are located at both ends of the screen; placed on a double stand whose raised supports are located at both ends of the screen to accommodate a sound bar.
Availability announced for spring. Indicative prices still unknown.
