Sony Bravia 8 M2, QD Oled TV 55'' and 65''

The Sony Bravia 8 M2 Ultra HD 4K series succeeds the Sony A95L (which will quietly end its career in 2025, while stocks last) at the top of the Japanese brand's OLED range, alongside the Sony Bravia 9 series (click on the Sony K-65XR90 reference to discover the full product review by the AVcesar editorial team). Presentation.

The Japanese brand's QD Oled 2025 offering, excluding the 2023 A95L models still available in the catalog, is therefore made up of only two new references, the Sony 55XR8M2 (55", 140 cm) and Sony 65XR8M2 (65", 165 cm).

Samsung Bravia 8 M2, peak brightness at 4,000 nits ?££££

In terms of specifications, Sony announces for its Bravia 8 M2 diffusers a peak brightness increase of 25% compared to the A95L screens and 50% compared to the Bravia 8 screens released last year. And since we also know that the Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs are equipped with the latest generation of QD Oled panels from Samsung Display, presented at the last CES in Las Vegas last January (see our news (UPDATE) CES 25 > 4th generation QD Oled TV: peak brightness at 4,000 nits confirmed), the question of a peak brightness value of 4,000 nits arises on these televisions. For its part, the Japanese manufacturer simply announces a peak brightness increase of 25% compared to its A95L televisions, 50% compared to its Bravia 8. We can clearly see Sony's usual caution through this communication. No doubt the peak brightness of the Bravia 8 M2 diffusers will be a little lower than that of the Samsung S95F TVs equipped with the same QD Oled panel. To be verified during a test.

Samsung Bravia 8 M2, XR Cognitive Processor 2025 by AI££££

Sony announces for its XR Cognitive Processor 2025 chip a deep integration of artificial intelligence for an XR Clear image functionality (see our news Sony XR Processor2023: new XR Clear Image function to find out more) ever more efficient. We find an excellent display of colors with a multitude of new hues thanks to an adjustment not only of the luminance but also of the saturation. The relief of the images is also improved through a finer management of the objects present in the foreground which concentrate the majority of the video processing (precision, color, etc.), unlike those in the background managed with a subtle bokeh effect, again very sophisticated for a greater overall realism and similar to human vision.

Samsung Bravia 8 M2, integrated heat dissipation plate and XR Contrast Booster 25££££

While no value is given on the peak brightness of Sony Bravia 8 M2 televisions, its implementation is associated, among other things, with a heat dissipation plate present behind the panel to evenly diffuse heat and avoid burning the diodes, thus marking the screen. This plate constitutes the main element of the exclusive Sony XR Contrast Booster 25 process.

Samsung Bravia 8 M2, XR Oled Motion and XR Triluminos Max££££

For the rest of the specifications, we of course find within these two diffusers a native 10-bit 120 hertz panel. The capabilities offered by the 2025 vintage XR Cognitive Processor have allowed Japanese engineers to refine the XR Upscaling 4K technology. This algorithm, combined with an image database dedicated to textures, detects and analyzes each object making up an image. These are individually optimized to display a sharper texture and greater depth for increased naturalness and reality. Of course, the XR Smoothing process to significantly reduce (or even eliminate) the posterization phenomenon is still on the menu.

Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs also integrate XR Oled Motion motion compensation and the exclusive XR Triluminos Max function for even richer, brighter and more precise colors thanks to the significantly wider Color Volume offered by QD Oled technology compared to White Oled. All within an extended color space. Of course, Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs are compatible with [abc]HDR10[/abc], HDR [abc]HLG[/abc] and [abc]HDR Dolby Vision[/abc].

Sony Bravia 8 M2, Smart Google TV££££

Sony 2025 Smart TVs feature the Google TV operating system, which puts content front and center. More than 6,500 applications are available, including Disney+, Netflix, Canal+, France TV and YouTube, and more than 700,000 films and series episodes. And no more need to juggle from one service to another to find what you want to watch: the hundreds of thousands of films and series are organized and searchable by genre, regardless of their origin.

To be precise, the XR Cognitive Processor 2025 is of course also used for the Smart TV functionality, for improved ergonomics via almost immediate fluidity and responsiveness. Finally, the Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs immediately integrate the Google Assistant function and [abc]Chromecast (integrated)[/abc] certification. The same goes for [abc]AirPlay 2[/abc] and HomeKit.

Sony Bravia 8 M2: Optimization Pro function ££££

The Bravia Cam (optional camera) triggers the display of an automatic reversing message and an audible alert if the person is looking at the TV too closely (very useful for children), allows energy savings by automatically lowering the brightness of the TV if the viewer leaves the room and optimizes the sound processing according to the position of the viewer in front of the TV. Lastly, it is possible to completely turn off (via a switch) the camera and no private data is stored on it or the TV.

Sony Bravia 8 M2: Sony Pictures Core service££££

Like all Sony Bravia XR televisions, the Sony Bravia 8 M2 offers the exclusive [abc]streaming[/abc] platform Sony Pictures Core (for Centre of Real Entertainment). This platform, mainly powered by Sony Pictures productions, offers, with the purchase of a Bravia XR TV, the possibility of viewing a selection of 10 films from the Hollywood studio free of charge for 24 months and the largest collection of feature films bearing the Imax Enhanced label, to be chosen from a catalog that is regularly enriched. The Sony Pictures Core film library is expected to be enriched regularly and this, with extreme quality, i.e. a speed of up to 80 Mbps for consumers with an adequate subscription.

Sony Bravia 8 M2: Acoustic Surface Audio+ ££££

The 2.2 sound section of the Sony Bravia 8 M2 series is still called Acoustic Surface Audio+. It uses two exciters placed behind the panel (called Actuators) with a power of 15 W each. These vibrate the surface of the panel to transmit the sound information. For clarification, the Sony Bravia 8 M2 benefits from two subwoofers (10 W each) for a total power output of 50 W (2 x 15 + 2 x 10). Support for Dolby Atmos is of course still available, along with DTS:X. The same goes for the Acoustic Centre Sync function. The latter offers to leave the TV's sound system active if (exclusively) a Sony soundbar is connected to widen the soundstage.

Finally, the Voice Zoom 3 process, based on artificial intelligence, identifies and amplifies human voices to ensure optimal intelligibility. This feature works in tandem with the Bravia Theatre 2024 and 2025 soundbar (presentation of the latter to come).

Sony Bravia 8 M2: Perfect for PlayStation 5 and Game Menu 2££££

The Perfect for PlayStation 5 certification with its two features Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode is also on the program. As a reminder, the Sony Bravia 8 M2 Bravia XR TVs automatically switch to Game or Standard mode depending on the nature of the signal sent by the PS5 console.

But the new feature of the Sony 2025 TVs is the presence of a Game Menu 2 allowing very simple and quick access to the game settings: VRR, motion blur reduction, Black Equalizer function (to unblock areas of the image and flush out an enemy or a bonus) or even the size of the displayed image (to reduce it on the screen).

Other features present, the support of HDR Dolby Vision Gaming up to 120 Hz, and the Multiview mode to display two images next to each other on the screen to, for example, play a PS5 title and watch a tutorial on YouTube.

Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode and Bravia Core Calibrated Mode features££££

Among the other advantages of the Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs, in addition to the Sony Pictures Core certification already mentioned, we find the Netflix Adaptive Calibrated Mode labels (to enjoy series, documentaries, films, etc. on your TV with the same quality as that of Netflix post-production studios regardless of the environment, dark or bright), Imax Enhanced and Prime Video Calibrated Mode for maximum image quality.

Otherwise, still on the subject of features, the Calman Ready function (for fine calibration of the TV with the tools of the same name), and [abc]Wi-Fi[/abc] 6 and [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] compatibilities are still part of the Sony Bravia 8 M2 TV range. Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs still only have two [abc]HDMI[/abc] 2.1 inputs with management of [abc]VRR[/abc], [abc]ALLM[/abc], [abc]eARC[/abc] and 4K/120 functions via a bandwidth of 48 gigabits. There are also two other HDMI connectors of obedience 2.0 (bandwidth of 18 Gbps).

Last detail, Sony Bravia 8 M2 TVs can adopt three different positions: no foot if the TV is fixed to the wall, placed on a double foot whose supports are located at both ends of the screen, placed on a double foot whose raised supports are located at both ends of the screen to accommodate a sound bar. And the design is magnificent with a thickness of only 34 mm across the entire surface of the back of the TV. Via a wall mount, the Sony Bravi 8 M2 televisions are therefore perfectly stuck to the wall.

Availability announced for spring. Indicative prices still unknown.
