Painting and music, listen to the unique Dolby experience

Dolby Laboratories presents Sound of a Masterpiece, an album that gives a musical dimension to the paintings of the greatest masters and artists, from Leonardo da Vinci to Dali, including Munch and Basquiat.

Overseen by Dolby Laboratories and conceived by visually impaired composer Bobby Goulder, in collaboration with award-winning composers from the New Radiophonic Workshop, the Sound of a Masterpiece album aims to give a sonic dimension to works of art previously frozen in the visual sphere.

What is the Mona Lisa listening to?££££

Among the works thus magnified (in Dolby Atmos of course), we find Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Claude Monet's The Water Lily Pond, Edvard Munch's The Scream, Frida Kahlo's Self-Portrait with a Thorn Necklace and Hummingbirds, David Hockney's A Bigger Splash, Jean-Michel Basquiat's King of Egypt, and Salvador Dalí's The Persistence of Memory.

For Edvard Munch's The Scream, for example, the team explains: "The dark and heavy idea of the piano in this piece was inspired by various European classical composers who were Munch's contemporaries, including Scriabin, Mahler, and Grieg. It symbolizes the man's progress across the bridge as he is overcome by a terrifying 'cry of nature,' in Munch's words. This anxiety is intensified by the sound design, which incorporates distorted and saturated soundscapes of nature that build to a crescendo until a final, overwhelming release."

A unique immersion in the works££££

"Thanks to Dolby Atmos, we have transcended the boundaries of sonic storytelling, offering listeners a total immersion in the world of each work, allowing them to grasp its full essence. At a time when so many people are looking to reconnect with art, says Daniela Bischof, Director of Marketing for Europe at Dolby Laboratories. “Art is more intense in Dolby” invites entertainment enthusiasts to experience an immersive journey, accessible from anywhere. With Sound of a Masterpiece, we hope to enable listeners to feel and rediscover iconic works of art through sound, making art more accessible. This experience aims to inspire everyone to connect with creativity, emotion, and story. Sound of a Masterpiece is available to stream in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music, Tidal, and Amazon Music.
