The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. And while pre-orders have been open since then, stock shortages may already be on the horizon. The first official information on the matter comes from Japan, via Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa on X.
The floor is given to Shuntaro Furukawa, CEO of Nintendo££££
He explains that 2.2 million Japanese people have already registered for a reservation on the My Nintendo Store. "An extremely high number of requests, which far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5," says Furukawa.
Not enough stock to satisfy everyone on release day, then. In Japan at least, because no information on this subject has yet been given for the Western market. We are nevertheless expecting a monumental success for the console despite a surprisingly high price for a Nintendo product: €470 at least here, while the first Switch was launched at a price of 330 euros.
