Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3, new premium Hi-Fi/Bluetooth headphones approved by David Beckham

More than a year after the appearance of the B&W Px7 S2e over-ear headphones, themselves unveiled more than a year after the B&W Px7 S2, the British manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins presented a few days ago the latest addition to the line, the B&W Px7 S3. On the menu, more lightness, finesse, and many sound improvements signed by the in-house engineers.

The Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 headphones are thinner and lighter than their predecessors, and even their carrying case is (a little) more compact. The slimmer profile and memory foam ear cups provide increased comfort. Also worth noting is the different layout of the transport buttons and microphones from previous models: the former are on the ear cups, the latter on the earpads. Overall, the Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 headphones are lighter than their predecessors, less than 300 grams.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 headphones, Auracast compatibility coming££££

Sound-wise, there are new 40mm bio-cellulose drivers, powered by independent amplifiers, a first for Bowers & Wilkins over-ear headphones. Also noteworthy is [abc]Bluetooth[/abc] 5.3 APT-X Adaptive 96 Hz/24-bit APT-X Lossless compatibility for high-fidelity wireless playback of suitable content. Auracast compatibility will soon be available via a future [abc]Firmware[/abc] update. Multipoint management is present but limited to two devices.

Note that the compatibility with Spatial Sound announced by the manufacturer does not mean support for said files available on the [abc]streaming[/abc] services Amazon Music, Apple Music or Tidal encoded using [abc]Dolby Atmos[/abc] technology. Bowers & Wilkins is indeed referring to a proprietary algorithm responsible for widening the soundstage.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S3 Headphones, Active Noise Cancellation££££

Active noise cancellation is still there with a total of eight dedicated microphones (four for each ear), including two for voice pickup. The new and improved Music app allows for various settings including a five-band equalizer, management of ANC (Active Noise Reduction) modes, battery monitoring, and adjustment of the wearing sensor and quick action button.

Battery life is shown to be 30 hours of listening time, and a quick charge function allows for seven hours of listening time on just 15 minutes of charging. Finally, note that the Bluetooth LE update mentioned, in addition to Auracast, will also support the LC3 codec for improved audio quality.

Available in anthracite black, indigo blue and ivory white. Recommended price: 429 euros.
